Guam Life

Guam Life is the island's magazine, events guide and weather app, published by Kar Kulture. This policy describes exactly what the app does with information, and it is written from the app's actual behaviour rather than from a template.
The short version. There are no accounts. Guam Life is paid for by local businesses that advertise in it, but the ads are sold directly to those businesses and are the same for everyone — they are not targeted at you, and the app does not track you or use an advertising identifier. To tell advertisers how many people saw their ad, the app sends an anonymous count that carries no identifier and no location. Your location is used to fetch weather for where you are.
If you allow it, the app takes a single location fix each time it refreshes the weather. There is no background location tracking. The coordinates are used to request the forecast, observations, tide predictions and UV index for your position, which means they are sent to the weather services listed under Services the app contacts.
Your location is never stored on our servers, never linked to an identity, never used to choose which ads you see, and never shared with advertisers. You can decline location entirely and choose one of Guam's villages instead; the app works fully either way, and the choice can be changed at any time in Settings.
When an ad is shown, tapped, or used to call, get directions to or visit a business, the app sends our server a record containing only:
The record contains no device identifier, no account, no session, no location and nothing else about you, and our database does not store IP addresses with it. Advertisers receive totals only — for example, how many times their ad was seen in a month — never individual records.
To work out "first time today", the app remembers on your device which ads it showed today. That list is one day deep: earlier days are discarded rather than kept, so it cannot build up into a history of what you have seen.
Ads and promoted events can offer to call a business, open directions in Maps, or open its website or ticket page. Those actions hand you over to your Phone app, Maps, or a web browser, and whatever happens next is between you and that business under its own privacy practices. Guam Life only counts that the button was used, as described above.
Deleting the app removes all of this.
The magazine's articles and images, the events listings, the ads, and the anonymous advertising counts described above. Nothing that identifies you. Our hosting provider, like any web host, may keep standard request logs, including IP addresses, for a short period for security and to keep the service running. We do not use those logs to identify or profile anyone.
If you allow notifications, weather alerts are worked out on your device from the weather data the app has fetched. No notification token is sent to us.
To answer a request, each service necessarily receives what is being asked about — for the weather services, the coordinates — and, as with any internet request, your device's IP address. Each has its own privacy practices, which we do not control.

Two of these — Open-Meteo and the Japan Meteorological Agency — are outside the United States, so requests to them leave US jurisdiction. We mention it because it is true, not because anything unusual happens to the data.
You can remove the ads with a Guam Life ad-free subscription, or by subscribing to GL Weather on the same device. Subscriptions are sold and processed by Apple. We never see or handle your payment details: the app asks Apple only whether a subscription is currently active. Apple's handling of your purchase is governed by Apple's own privacy policy.
Guam Life is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
If this policy changes in a way that affects what the app does with information, the updated date above will change and the new version will be published here before the change ships.
