GL Weather
Last updated 28 September 2026
GL Weather is a weather and typhoon-tracking app for Guam, published by Kar Kulture. This policy describes exactly what the app does with information, and it is written from the app's actual behaviour rather than from a template.
The short version. There are no accounts. We do not run analytics, advertising or tracking of any kind. Our own servers store nothing about you — the app only ever reads from them. Your location is used to fetch weather for where you are, and is sent to the weather services listed below so they can answer.
If you allow it, the app takes a single location fix each time it refreshes. There is no background location tracking. The coordinates are used to request the forecast, observations, tide predictions and UV index for your position, which means they are sent to the weather services listed under Weather services.
Your location is never stored on our servers, never linked to an identity, and never used to build a profile. You can decline location entirely and choose one of Guam's villages instead; the app is fully functional either way, and the choice can be changed at any time in Settings.
All of this lives on your device and in your device's app group container. It is not transmitted to us. Deleting the app removes it.
Nothing. The app's backend holds weather data only — alerts, storm tracks and the island's Condition of Readiness. The app has read-only access to it and cannot write to it at all.
To answer a request, each service necessarily receives the coordinates being asked about and, as with any internet request, your device's IP address. Each has its own privacy practices, which we do not control.
| Service | Provides | Operated by |
|---|---|---|
| api.weather.gov | Forecasts, observations, alerts | US National Weather Service |
| radar.weather.gov | Radar imagery | US National Weather Service |
| aviationweather.gov | METAR and TAF | US National Weather Service |
| tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov | Tide predictions | US NOAA |
| data.epa.gov | UV index | US EPA |
| api.open-meteo.com | Supplementary forecast data | Open-Meteo (Germany) |
| data.jma.go.jp | Satellite imagery | Japan Meteorological Agency |
| Supabase | Alerts, storm tracks, COR | Supabase Inc. (our backend host) |
Two of these — Open-Meteo and the Japan Meteorological Agency — are outside the United States, so requests to them leave US jurisdiction. We mention it because it is true, not because anything unusual happens to the data.
Subscriptions are sold and processed by Apple. We never see or handle your payment details. The app asks Apple only whether a subscription is currently active, and receives an answer about entitlement — not about you.
Apple's handling of your purchase is governed by Apple's own privacy policy.
GL Weather is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
If this policy changes in a way that affects what the app does with information, the updated date above will change and the new version will be published here before the change ships.
